Mandal Kantori is a choir with about 65 members, affiliated to the city center congregation of Mandal, Norway. Our activities fall in two categories. It is important for us to be an active part in the parish work of the church, with frequent participations in Sunday services, evening songs and other church activities. In parallel, we are involved in different sorts of projects; from comprehensive classical church music masterpieces to concerts in cooperation with musicians in the jazz/gospel genre. Mandal Kantori's goals are to strengthen and enrich the musical life in the church of Mandal, and to be a positive partner and contributor in the cultural life of the city in general.
Mandal Kantori was founded on Sept. 1, 1988 by Tormod Lindland, organist in the city's church. He has been the conductor all the time since, except the 2001/2001 season, when Bjørn G. Odden conducted the choir. Most members of the choir live in Mandal, but also the neighbouring county of Lindesnes and the city of Kristiansand are represented by a number of singers. We practise once weekly and have several rehearsal weekends every year. In 1998 we recorded the CD "Guds rike er til", which is described in more detail below. Mandal Kantori has at several occasions given performances for HM King Harald V of Norway.
In 1998 we recorded the CD "Guds rike er til" in Mandal Kirke. The content of the recording represents some of the basis repertoire of Mandal Kantori, including religious folk songs, hymns, motets, children's songs and negro spirituals, in addition to several purely instrumental organ pieces.
May 2008 we recorded our second CD, "Kildevang" which is now available for sale. Please contact one of the persons listet below.
